Believe me, you do not want the considerable hassle – trying to research, locate, drive, purchase, design, repeatedly adjust and make a template, then cut and finish the plastic piece, nor find & pickup the correct clips and hardware. This is a matter of careful study, personal experience on my car, proven benefit, CONVENIENCE and value for you. The Kit is a clean-looking, near factory appearing Kit that does not have the obvious “modification-look”. Access to me for installation support if you would like help. Near factory appearance Compliments the BFIWhy: The BFC is the newest product derived from my well-known BFI Kit. The BFC provides additional air sealing, air deflection for radiator cooling while flowing more air to the BFI for better engine performance. The BFC also looks great. Without the BFC, the engine bay looks like it is missing this cover. So, the BFC is both functional and adds to the appearance of the car. But , you do not need a BFI to get value from the BFC. BFI: The BFI is the definitive intake system for these cars, and is widely accepted as a baseline modification in 16 countries for many years. THE BFI IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS KIT. Overview: You install the BFC Kit to enhance the performance of the BFI and/or to improve the appearance. The BFC is mostly a bolt-on modification using the provided clips and existing bolts. The BFC comes with mounting holes already cut into it. You would mark and drill the mounting points into the top of the Upper Tie Bar. The Cover fits around the hood latch and release handle. You unhook the hood latch normally as you do now. The BFC features contribute to the the BFI’s significant increase in air volume and air intake pressure. It also has additional cooling air pressure on the radiator. I have never had any radiator issue. The BFC is made of ABS plastic – the same material and look as my BFI, and very similar too to the textured pattern of the stock radiator tray. So, it all has a factory type appearance. What can the BFI Kit do for your car? The BFI wil increase horsepower (3rd Party dyno – up to 18 more horsepower results with the BFI) – dyno testing has been generally accepted since ~2003. After installation in my 1993 SC400™, it accelerates quicker, gears shift easier and smoother, gets better gas mileage, and has much better engine sound. (even with normal and spirited acceleration) I enjoy driving the car much more. My car passed state emissions inspections for all years thru 2018 in Georgia without any issue. The car shifts even faster with lighter gas pedal pressure. Plus, I get improved gas mileage & even better gas mileage – especially on the lower RPM range. When I kick the accelerator, the car comes alive with much better sound, and much better acceleration. I installed BFI 3.1 Kit in my own SC400s™ in April 2008 – with NO issues whatsoever, no issue with water ingestion, no overheating, no excessive filter replacements, nothing! I just enjoy driving the car more and get better all round performance. The BFI Kit works. SC400™ and Soarer™ V-8s share approximately the same airbox, snorkel and air inlets and are compatible with the Kit. All SC & Soarer model differences are addressed in the 11-page Installation Instruction document along with pictures and diagrams. In the pictures, you can see my original BFC and my original, beaten-up BFI (worn from taking it off so many times for pictures, refinements,etc), both of which are still on my car. Note that SC300™ and Soarer™ model differences are addressed in the Install Tips doc. Please note that this is my original BFC. The design has been improved to better fit and cover the gaps that you see in the picture. I am available to answer questions during your installation by email, phone, Skype. Some simple drilling is required on a few mounting points – mostly to just enlarge existing holes for some clips. What is the reason for the BFC & BFI Intake Kits? As good as the SC & Soarer™ engines are from the factory, it is commonly known and accepted that the airflow to the engine is badly restricted. By allowing more pressurized cold air, the engine performs better. The reason is that the Kit has a combination of 3 Crucial Features: extended cold-air separation from engine heat, rammed-air from rerouting cold-air thru the front grill, and a larger intake capacity. Having ALL of these features is the key. Other off-the-shelf intakes do not perform this well according to testing that others have done. The reason is that off-the-shelf intakes do not have all of the 3 Features. This Kit is less expensive than other lesser performing off-the-shelf products. You can still use your factory or secondary market air-filter with the Kit, so you don’t have to purchase expensive and maintenance-prone air filters. The BFI has been widely accepted for several years by those that have taken the time to properly investigate. The BFC is an standalone product, but it is also an improvement for the BFI. What you need to know: Since I have done the hard part for you by putting together this Kit, you will still need to make final adjustments. These are minor adjustments. You will like how easily the installation is done. If you take your time, and do not rush through the install, then you should be successful. If these same pieces fit my car, then they should fit your car too because they are cut from the same templates. GTE Soarers and SC300s that have the radiator overflow bottle mounted on the front of the radiator, can choose to pull the clips to maintain the overflow fluid levels, or eliminate the bottle or relocate the overflow bottle near the battery. I have info on this. You will need various other metric tools such as a socket set to complete the install as indicated in the installation instructions. So, if you enjoy working on your car, and you want it to look & to run better, then this is considered a great project with a clean, near factory appearance, giving you better gas mileage and worthwhile results!
